Romans 8 Study Guide

If you were marooned on an island, what would you want to have with you?

Take a moment. Think about it. What kind of food or seeds would you like to have? What tools would be essential? Who would you consider essential? Questions like these force use to summarize and prioritize our lives.

If you could only take with you one book of the Bible which one would it be? What about one chapter of the Bible? For me, it would be Romans 8. I think it is a great summary of God’s message of the whole Bible. Verses 1 and 2 give us a great summary of the chapter. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” (Rom. 8:1-2, ESV) The rest of the chapter fleshes out the significant meaning of these two verses.

I use Romans 8 often to help people overcome persistent sin and hopelessness. It is a great chapter to study for every believer. In reference to Romans 8, Matthew Henry wrote, “Many people of God have drawn water from out of these wells of salvation.” I have found this statement to be very true.
